Bottom line is yes. If it is scattered on the ground and the chickens pick it up and eat it, (if they eat it, they might not), it will probably make them sick. Probably won't kill them, but I wouldn't take the chance.

The safest and most practical out door bait station for ants is the KM Ant Pro Ant Bait Dispenser. It is perfectly safe around chickens and is safe for the environment.

I had ants coming out from the power outlet in the kitchen. I sealed it. They found a hole in the backsplash. I sealed it. They cut right thru it...the battle continued for a few weeks, and the ants swarmmed the kitchen. Using ePestSupply online guide I figured these are carpenter ants, bought Advance Carpenter Ants Bait and laid in bottle cups and on paper towl in front of their hole. They came and picked up a lot of it back into the hole. The ants disapeard for a couple of days. Now, they keep coming every couple of days, but don't venture far from the hole. They swarm the bait, pick more of it, and then they are gone for a couple more days.

I was expecting them to be gone and that I can remove the bait.

Is it still going to happen?
Am I doing something wrong?
Should I do something else?

Thank you! See more »

If the ants are gathering the bait, it will have an effect. Solid baits are not eaten by the worker ants that gather it. The bait is fed to the immature "larvae" stage of the ants. The larvae then digests it, and reguritates it as a liquid for the worker ants to feed on. Worker ants only feed on liquid food sources.

I would suggest to give it more time. Also, don't expect to only bait 1 area and for that to totally eliminate all of the ant colonies around the house. If it is carpenter ants, there could be several colonies, or "scattered" colonies and they are feeding on the bait. This is common.

I have carpenter ants in my attic. Not sure where or if there is a nest but definitely have them in the attic. Should I sprinkle liberally all around or put a small amount on a board and leave in one place and hope they come eat it? See more »

The best way to apply Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is to apply it outdoors. Carpenter ants - even though they may be nesting indoors - travel outdoors for food sources. They eat aphids, mealybugs, honeydew and other insects. They do not eat wood for food, and seldom forage indoors for food sources.

Ron - we have Carpenter Ants in our RV camper and we're really concerned. I had a few small tears in my roof this winter and had them sealed up, but i know there is some questionable wood up there and although the roof feels solid, i do have one 4"x4" soft spot. I do not believe i have a leak currently that is causing wet wood, but i do believe there is some comprised or dead wood now from the leak that is dry wood but weak.

Over the last week, with the help of our exterminator we have been using Advance granular in the lighting fixtures (have seen a half dozen ants go in there - some are dead since treatment), and on the floor where we saw shavings (have seen about 10 dead around it since treatment). Also have Terro Ant traps around the camper. We are not seeing hardly any live ants this week, just dead ones. We have not seen a large amount of ants from the beginning (@May 26).

My questions are this:
-will this approach kill/control the Carpenter Ants?
-How will I know if the Ants are controlled/removed? Will they ever go away with the compromised wood on the roof?
*should i get the areas on the roof where i had the tears and suspect rotted wood replaced? Even though i believe it is dry now?

Appreciate your insights - your website is great.

No, not if properly applied. This bait is generally scattered on the ground in areas where Carpenter Ants are found. They pick it up and take it back to the nest where hopefully it is consumed and kills the nest.

We have never had any reports of any issues with Advance Carpenter Ant Bait.

It's not safe for dogs to eat if that is what you are asking. It probably would make them sick to some degree.

If applied properly however, there should be no effect on the dog. We have never had a report of harm or injury to pets with this product.

About 2 years if left unopened. Once opened, about 6 months. When you use it, it will only last a few days or until it gets wet.

The main difference is the attractant. Carpenter ant bait contains a fish oil attractant the carpenter ants will feed on. Not all ants will feed on this attractant, so essentially the Carpenter Ant Bait is for Carpenter Ants and the 275a is for all common species including Carpenter Ants.

Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is a food grade bait that contains fish oil as the attractant. Once applied, the ants have to pick it up within 3-4 days or it goes rancid. Basically it has to be reapplied every few days anyway, so rain normally is not the issue. If you want something with a much longer lifespan, consider the KM Ant Pro System with Gourmet Liquid Ant Bait. It lasts up to 4 months. Just replace the bait every 3-4 months are that is it.

We have two dogs and the nest is high up on our garage next to a seating area. The dogs don't spend a lot of time there but they do explore the area. See more »

Just make sure that they dogs can't get to the bait. I doubt that they would consume enough to cause them any harm. We have never had a report of any injury to harm to pets caused by this bait.
