Carpet beetles are basically a dermistid beetle that eats natural animal fibers such as wool. That is how they get the name carpet beetle. 100 years ago, almost all carpets were made of wool, and they were a huge problem.

Today, almost all carpets are synthethic, and there is no nutritional value in them for "carpet beetles". It is however, somewhat likely that they could fly in through an open window. But the chances of them actually being able to propogate and reproduce and slim.

Does Ultracide work on clothes moths? I have a can left over from successful flea treatment, and I'd like to know if it's worth trying on my clothing moth infestation before investing in more products. See more »

The Legal answer is that Ultracide is not labeled or directed to be used for Clothes Moths. Here is a link to the label directions - http://www.epestsupply.com/images/Pro...

However, I can tell you that the ingredients in Ultracide are all commonly used in different products that are labeled for Clothes Moths, and since they have the same life cycle as a flea, are effected in the same way. So the bottom line is that Ultracide will kill Clothes Moths, and in my opinion, safe enough to be sprayed on clothes too. I am not telling you to do that however, I am pointing you back to the label directions.

I am thinking about buying Whitmire Ultracide since I have ticks in my bedroom because of my dog. I want to know for how long that prodct works and also, if is toxic for cats.
Does it work on contact? How often should I use it to get rid of them?
Do you recommend a different product for my problem? See more »

Ultracide will last 3-4 weeks indoors before it begins to "fall off" not be effective. The point at which it becomes less toxic is usually when it dries, and after all odors have dissipated. I would recommend to use it whenever there is a problem with fleas or ticks and only use when there is evidence of live insects. This may be 1 time, or more often, it totally depends on the situation.

As far as I know, It is not harmful to cats if used according to label directions, and allowed to fully dry, etc.

I have two small dogs (15 pounds each). Is this product safe enough to use around them? Any special instructions? See more »

The best thing to do is to remove pets and people from the area to be sprayed or treated. If you are treating carpet, then vacuum like crazy and immediately spray the carpet and leave the room until it has dried. If hardwood floors or tile, then vacuum like crazy and spray the edges and not the entire floor.

Vacuuming will agitate the fleas and get them moving around. It will also help to remove flea eggs and other life forms.

Don't vacuum again until you are ready to treat again, which is around 10 days. Then do all of this again… See full answer »

Brought over some natural wool rugs from Africa and after storing them incorrectly for a period of time I found a moth infestation. If I use Ultracide as recommended is it safe once applied and dried for children and pets? See more »

RonDawson  •
If you use Ultracide as intended there should be no problems for children or pets. Ultracide is a great product and we have been using and selling it for years. Just be sure to let it dry thoroughly before allowing them onto the treated areas.

I have an area rug recently removed from my attic that is covered in casings and moths. How do I kill what's there and make sure they don't return and that larvae are killed as well? See more »

For detailed information on How To Kill Clothes Moths and Casemaking Clothes Moths, please visit our page here.

The simply answer is to use Ultracide Aerosol and spray both sides of the rug. Then place it in a plastic bag for storage. If you decide to use the rug, the repeat the application of Ultracide every few weeks until there are no signs of activity.

Hope this helps… See full answer »

I've had a moth problem for a while now in my bedroom and front coat closet. I've had proffesionals come to service the issue with some success. I belive the moths are more common in my front coat closet now. Would tthe Ultracide be a good solution? See more »

Ultracide can be used on the floors and baseboards, but not on the coats or clothes.

Removing the clothes and going through each piece with a fine tooth comb or sending them to the cleaners is the first thing to be done. If you don't remove the clothes and treat the clothing individually or at least inspect it, you will never get control of the population.

The good news is that you only need to inspect clothes that are made of natural fibers such as those from animals, birds, or cotton… See full answer »
