Permethrin SFR Insect/Termite Concentrate

Permethrin SFR Termiticide / Insecticide Concentrate is a broad spectrum insecticide that offers a quick knockdown of target pests as well as a long lasting residual that lasts for about 90 days indoors and 30 days outdoors. The active ingredient is Permethrin which is a pyrethroid, a synthetic material made to be like natural pyrethrum which comes from the chrysanthemum flower.

Features:
* Can be used on lawns, landscapes, ornamentals, around homes, sheds, and barns on a variety of insects
* Safe for use in and around animal housing including poultry houses, and on listed animals

Uses/Applications:
For use on: Lawns, landscapes, ornamentals, around homes, sheds, barns, and more!

Permethrin SFR has demonstrated excellent plant safety; however, not all cultivars have been tested.  Before treating large numbers of plants of a particular cultivar, treat a few plants and observe prior to full scale application. Use the higher rates for heavy pest infestations. Use sufficient volume to cover plant surface. Higher volumes should be used if arid or drought conditions exist. Repeat applications as necessary to maintain control. Do not apply more than 2.0 lb. per acre / year for lawn and ornamental use.

Target Pests:
Insects Controlled: Ants, bat bugs, bed bugs, bees, boxelder bugs, brown dog ticks, carpenter bees, carpet beetles, centipedes, cockroaches, crickets, earwigs, firebrats, flies, ground beetles, leaf beetles, millipedes, pantry pests, pillbugs, scorpions, silverfish, sowbugs, spiders, ticks, wasps, and more!

Permethrin will kill armyworms, but it may not be long lived. Army worms will soon turn into a moth. You need to treat as soon as possible to help prevent any major damage to turfgrass. Here is a link to Texas A&M on Armyworm control -

I would like to get a paint additive to repel termites on outdoor wooden buildings. I have heard of this in several places but cannot find the product that is used. See more »

This product is not labeled to be added to paint. I doubt that it would last very long if added, and probably would not be worth the effort. It is a water soluble concentrate and must be added to water to blend properly. Latex paint would probably just turn into a yellow tinted oily mess if added.

Permethrin has shown to last 1-3 years in the soil for subterranean termites. It's not the best product for this use. Products containing Fipronyl such as Taurus or Termidor will last up to 15 years.

The normal use rate is 1 oz per gallon of water. For a 3 gallon spray tank you would use 3 oz of Permethrin. Of course this depends on what insect you are trying to kill. Here is a link to the label directions - http://www.epestsupply.com/images/Pro...

How much per gallon to kill wasps? See more »

The general dilution ratio is 1 oz per gallon of water. It will kill wasps, but not on contact. If you are spraying by hand with a pump type sprayer, it could help to add a drop of dish soap. This will help to wet the wasps wings making it difficult for them to fly.

The cheapest product to use would be a Permethrin based product such as Permethrin SFR or TenGard. The question is how would you apply it? For proper tick control all ground surfaces, tree trunks, vegetation etc, needs to be treated. The rate of application would be around 1 gallon per 1000 square feet. That equals around 43 gallons per acre. That's difficult to do without the proper application equipment. 1 oz of Permethrin in 1 gallon of water per 1,000 square feet, not including trees, heavy foliage, vegetation etc.

My experience with White flies is that permethrin will kill them on contact, but it will not provide any length of control. The best insecticides for white flies are systemic, which you cannot use on fruit trees. Permethrin or Pyrethrin are about the only choices, other than insecticidal soap, but don't use them within 30 days of harvest of the fruit.

Hope this helps.

Granule applications of Bifenthrin (Talstar) will work the best. Permethrin will work, but it usually takes many more applications compared to only 2-3 applications will Bifenthrin.

Liquid sprays are also not the best method of application during the hot summer. In the fall and early spring, liquid applications perform better when the grass is not growing as fast. When you apply liquid pesticides, and then mow in a few days, the pesticide is removed for the most part. Granules will penetrate to the base of the grass blades and slowly release.

Permethrin is one of the most commonly used insecticides for fleas and ticks on animals. It used in shampoos, dips, sprays, etc. This product is just more concentrated. Be sure to follow the label directions.
