Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust

Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust is about half as toxic as sodium chloride or table salt (in a laboratory setting), but very effective against insects and fungi that do not have the same excretion mechanisms !

Compare to: Nibor D, Bora Care

Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust is a fast and efficient way to treat a structure for drywood termites, wood boring beetles, carpenter ants and decay fungi. It can be used as a wood preservative, fungicide and insecticide on its own or in conjunction with other treatments as a supplement. Because of its application flexibility as a dust or liquid, it can be applied as a dust, spray, foam or mist onto wood and cellulose building materials or inside wall voids, cracks and crevices.

The active ingredient in Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust is a natural borate mineral salt with a low mammalian toxicity and has no known resistance. This active ingredient is known as Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate (DOT), a natural borate mineral salt and micro-nutrient. It is manufactured for use in the form of a water-soluble borate powder. Once it's applied in a liquid form by foaming, misting or spraying onto wood or other cellulosic materials, the borate active ingredient creates a protective envelope and remains for years of protection. Often Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust is dusted into places like wall voids where pests like to hide as an additional protection. When the dust gets on the insects, they clean themselves and consume the DOT during the cleaning process.

DOT is a natural form of elemental boron, which is essential for the healthy growth of plants and believed important in human calcium metabolism. Because animals and humans simply take what they need from their diet and rapidly excrete any excess via the kidneys, DOT has a low acute toxicity. As a result, Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust is about half as toxic as sodium chloride or table salt (in a laboratory setting), but very effective against insects and fungi that do not have the same excretion mechanisms.

Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust Features:

Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust Uses:
Apply directly to unstained, unpainted wood or dry dust or foam into wall voids, attics and other concealed areas. Applications may be made to wood structures including decks, fences, steps, sheds, barns and other outbuildings. Such structures must be protected from excess rain. On wood with drier than normal moisture content, apply by brush or spray two applications of a 10% solution to wood surfaces. On wood with normal moisture content, apply by brush or spray one application of a 15% solution to wood surfaces. Application may also be made by drilling and then injecting the solution under pressure into sound wood or into the insect galleries of infested wood. Tim-bor Professional may be applied as a foam to wood surfaces or injected into wall voids or insect galleries.

Tim-bor Professional Insecticide and Fungicide Dust Mixing / Application:
10% solution, mix 1 lb of Tim-bor in 1 gallon of water - 2 applications required
15% solution, mix 1.5 lbs of Tim-bor in 1 gallon of water - 1 application required

Not if you are going to burn it. Timbor (Disodium Octoborate Tetrahydrate) is a flame retardent. It would make the wood almost unuseable.

We recently has an electrical fire and had to remove all the drywall from the walls and ceilings. Doing so revealed a few 2x4s with what looks like termite damage. It is only in one area right next to the fireplace. I'm thinking they may have come in from firewood that was collected and stored in that area. I'm just wondering if I can spray this on any of the existing framing that has not been damaged ? And do I need to use a separate sprayer for this other than the one I used for non-repellant termadicide on the perimeter of the house? See more »

If the house has not been previously treated for subterranean termites, I highly recommend you do so. You mentioned using a non-repellent termiticide on the perimeter but didn't mention it indoors. Timbor is not the best at killing existing infestations indoors. It can be sprayed on wood with the same sprayer that a non-repellent was used in, however, that area if showing termite damage needs a thorough treatment with the non-repellent termiticide as well.

Timbor is OK for termite prevention in most cases and is also used for mold control. However, as I mentioned, it is not the best or what I would recommend for an existing subterranean termite infestation… See full answer »
