Hi! I have a carpet beetle/larve problem in my home and have been researching the best products to finally get rid of them. So far I've found 3, but I'm confused which one will be best. I want to spray the baseboards, corners, carpets and closets in all of my rooms in the house. I have a lot of square footage to cover! What would you recommend out of these three products; Ultraguard, Demand CS and Bifen for a) the quickest result, b) the longest lasting and c) safest for my cats (and my family)? Is there something else better?! Thanks a bunch! See more »

The problem with carpet beetles, is that they really don't feed on carpet - unless that carpet is wool. If the carpet is synthetic, you need to look elsewhere to solve the problem, such as closets, which could contain suits, socks, sweaters, etc, all made of wool. Also wool rugs or tapestries that have been in storage are great suspects.

Carpet Beetles for the most part are an outside pest that migrates indoors. In most cases, damage to wool items is minimal. Also Carpet Beetles in most cases are nothing more than a Dermistid Beetle that gets inside the house. They originate outdoors on plants, flowers, etc.

We live adjacent to a buffalo farm... Very clean, rarely a scent. Our house is being destroyed and our porch is unusable due to all of the fly xxxx (looks like black mold everywhere). What is the most effective that can be sprayed on vinyl siding, around house, etc. See more »

In this situation, regardless of how clean the adjacent buffalo farm is, there will always be flies. To control them you will have to use a repellent spray such as Demand CS or Bifen on the walls, flooring and even the ceiling of the home. Maxforce fly spot bait sprayed on these areas may also be the answer.

I currently spray bifen monthly as a barrier around the home at 1oz per gallon of water. When mosquitos are really bad I will do a wide barrier around the home, on trees and shrubs with the bifen and an igr. This is done once maybe twice per year.

What are your thoughts with rotating the bifenthrin with Lambda-cyhalothrin every couple months to avoid any resistance to the pesticide(s)?

Resistance to pesticides only occurs in insects that have a very prolific breeding cycle such as cockroaches, etc. It also occurs when the same chemistry is used over and over and over.

Bifen I/T is a broad use insecticide. It can be sprayed outdoors, indoors, and will control most insects. The specific use really depends on what you are trying to control. Bifen I/T is not labeled to be used on gardens. If you tell me what you are trying to control I can give your more specific answers.

Bifen is Bifenthrin, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide and very repellent to ants. If you spray them on contact, it will kill them. After it is dry, they won't come near it, because it repels them.

So the answer to your question is yes, it will kill carpenter ants on contact, but no, it will not affect the nest. Read more about why you don't want to spray for carpenter ants here - http://www.epestsupply.com/carpenter_...

The Mosquito Authority came to my farm in error (supposed to go to a nearby neighbor) and sprayed my land, which was in full bloom with various flowers. My blind cat was on the porch and within 72 hours one of my indoor birds that during the day is on the screened porch (bird was not out when the spraying occured) however; was outside the next morning, bled to death in the cage. I am wondering if this Bifen I/T was the cause of my bird's death, and if the butterflies/bees which were sprayed were injured. Also my land has the Chesapeake Bay Watershed going through it and am wondering about the damage to the water. See more »

Bifen I/T is not an inherently toxic pesticide. It can kill butterflies and bees if sprayed directly, but once dried, the kill factor will be near zero since it also has repellent properties.

Bifen I/T is a synthetic pyrethroid class insecticide. It kills crawling insects. It is very low odor and does not work by inhalation. The issue with the bird is in my opinion again, something else. Even if Bifen I/T were sprayed indoors, around and near the bird, the bird would not bleed. Bifen I/T is not an anticoagulant and does not work this way.

If you read enough posts about pesticides on the internet, you will panic and think that the end of the world is near. I can tell you that after being in this… See full answer »

I am a novice to treating pests. My daughter and I are covered in flea bites and I'm searching for a solution. We have a chocolate lab that sleeps outdoors but occasionally comes indoors. I've treated the dog with the advantage flea meds but that doesn't seem to help because I have fleas that I cannot get rid of. I came across a YouTube video that recommended mixing Bifen IT and IG Regulator and spraying on carpet, furniture and then also use the same mixture for the back yard. What is your recommendation? Please help...it breaks my heart to see my 12 yr old constantly scratching her bites and I feel helpless..
thank you in advance.

The best outdoor treatment for fleas is Bifen XTS. Whether or not you use a growth regulator outdoors really doesn't matter, since sunlight and rain destroy it anyway.

Indoors, the best product to use is Precor 2625. It is an aerosol can product that delivers a fine mist to floors and furniture. I don't recommend using Bifen I/T indoors. It can work, but the water you mix it in will leave water spots everywhere and could stain certain fabrics. I certainly would not use it on furniture.

For pets, PetCor Pet Spray on a regular basis. I also don't like oral or topical skin treatments for dogs. Its bad for their systems, and since the tumor rate on… See full answer »

Synthetic pyrethroid insecticides such as Bifen can be harmful to cats IF applied to them directly such as with a Dip. Bottom line is that it is a very good insecticide for fleas and ticks, and once applied, if allowed to completely dry before allowing the animals back onto it, there should be no problem. We have never had a report of harm to dogs or cats following an application of Bifen IT.

It can be used in a hose end sprayer, but there are no settings or methods to use it that way. Most pesticides are designed to be used with a specific amount of water, Bifen IT is normally used around 1 oz per gallon of water per 1,000 square feet of turf. So if the lawn is 4,000 square feet, you will use 4 oz of Bifen in 4 gallons of water to treat the entire 4,000 square feet. There is really no way to calculate this with most retail hose end sprayers, as the calibration and settings are not very accurate.

It is possible to use 4 oz of Bifen IT in a hose end sprayer and then set the sprayer to spray it slowly enough so that you can dispense that amount over the entire 4,000 square feet. Again, there are no specific settings, you basically have to go by eyesight and feel… See full answer »

Bifen is not recommended for German Cockroach control. It is a great outdoor insecticide for outdoor species of cockroaches such as American, Smoky Brown, etc. It is not a good insecticide for indoor use.

For a heavy infestation, I would highly recommend using Advion Cockroach Gel Bait and placing "dots" of bait the size of a pencil eraser in the corners of all cabinets and also drawers. Place about 40-50 dots of bait in the kitchen in all the cabinets and about 5-10 in the bathrooms under the sinks and around the toilets. Also place dots whereever you see them such as on door jambs, corners of ceilings, behind pictures, etc. Replace these bait dots as they become eaten and continue baiting until all signs of… See full answer »
